Music + Art + Friendship
Tri Music Group is a record label founded in 2014 by Brian Thabault & Shane Johnson. The duo created a home to release their own music projects, and eventually expanded to include friends. With multiple aliases and side-projects between them, the focus has always been on the music first, never settling on any particular genres. Sounds on the label range from house and techno, to ambient, experimental, rnb, hip-hop and pop.
Both founders are also visual artists and designers in their own right. Each brings their distinctive styles to the visual look and feel of the label.
With roots firmly planted in the mountains of Montana, the label expanded to New York City when Brian moved there in 2017. Shane still holds down the Montana connection, and the roster of artists who have released on the label reflects both of these locations.
In 2021 label celebrated its first vinyl pressing with the release of the debut Spin Department project Glass Curve. This is the first truly collaborative effort between the two founders. The release also featured a wide range of digital only remixes from the label’s circle of producers.
